Moon closeness tonight until 2034 looking spectacular

An unprecedented display of astronomical showmanship will light up the night sky tonight when the supermoon approaches Earth.

The full moon will rise in the cold, dark afternoon hours on Sunday December 3, before setting on the horizon the following Monday December 4.

Stargazers are in for a spectacular treat since the supermoon has not approached Earth since November 14 2016.

Last year's supermoon saw the closest lunar approach in 69 years, but unfortunately the moon will not creep this close again until 2034.

Tonight is a super moon crescent in conjunction with Venus.

SUPER CRESCENT MOON AND VENUS CONJUNCTION: Tonight, May 17th, a super crescent Moon with Earthshine will pass by Venus in the sunset sky. What is a super crescent Moon? It's like a super full Moon--only prettier. Visit today's edition of Spaceweather.com for the full story of crescent-shaped supermoons and how to observe this one.
