It's been snowing heavily all morning but has only settled on the plants and grass. The path and patio were very lightly covered but have now melted. I watched the snow turn to rain at 11:05am. Curiously, when rewinding the radar a bit it is only showing rain for us from 10:50 but it was definitely snowing until just past 11.

Could someone explain to a southerner (10 miles from the E Channel) what this " snow" thing is?

so how much does lying snow lower the air temperature? And how would it affect tomorrows precipitation if at all?

Reverting to sleet here now.  We had a minuscule dusting on the grass, but that was it.  I'm pleased to hear that the models are showing a milder, zonal pattern from late next week onward - back to the sort of uncomplicated, usable winter weather we've been spoiled with of recent years.:)

Loads of snow here in Cambridge for whoever asked - been snowing heavily for 3 hours-ish. Maybe 5cm laying?

Back to Snow here

Southend is a slushfest but can confirm Rayleigh and Hockley have a lot of proper decent snow so you dont have to drive far

Approaching 6 hours of non stop steady snowfall here. Probably got a couple of inches on the ground.

Still snowing moderately, that's been 9 hours now since the first tiny little flakes began blowing in the wind. Wonderful to see after so many years, easily the best since 2010 here :cold-emoji:

Just below Danbury Essex I've got a beautiful 4 inches. It's sticky and all the trees look magical

I've still got light snow in the forecast for tomorrow but I think I'll just have to look for the next event now. Seeing everyone's snow photos gives me a chance to live vicariously ?

Loving the snow pictures! Very wet and windy here in Brighton. For me, that’s the next best thing :) especially the wind.

Great to see that some of the the SE got in on the action

We forecasters love to tempt fate...

9z UKV in ups the snow totals for a line from E Berks to S Suffolk tomorrow, could be 5-7cm or so on that.
