Heavy snow here but only light covering . A set up where a few hundred feet higher would see decent accumulations

Yes deffo...

Elevation will be paramount for notable!!

Although some lower levels look good for a covering. Through next few hours.

The local variation is amazing still raining here in Cobham but temp is down to 2.1c

I'm 0.7c now - the southern section of this front must be much colder than the northern section.

Woke up at 6am to see it was snowing, by 7 ish it's heavy and very windy. Got some of it settling on the bin lid.

Oh my stars, more snow.

To ease some frustrations..this is now an evolving transfer..

And the snow band is both widening-and pepping as it makes inroads into the region....!!!!

It’s trying really hard to settle but I think it’s just to warm.

The pppn rate isn’t helping either. Switching between heavy to light snow is not helping matters.

Dusting on cars here in Bedfordshire but nothing like 20 miles up the road and I don’t expect anything like the pictures from the West Midlands to replicate across our patch.

Falling snow for the 2nd time in December- at least it’s snow.

Still snowing here in Farnham

about 2cm so far, very breezy & although it's snowing I can hear dripping!

Fingers crossed it keeps up!

Wasn’t expecting snow to actually happen here but it is and hammering down! More snow in the last few weeks than in the previous 5 years, cracking stuff... shame I have to go to work now.

Snow falling well outside but to warm/wet for accumulations.

Reports on other threads of settled snow melting and Philip Avery on BBC breakfast just now “ground quite warm, any settled snow melting quickly after sunrise”

Yes it's time to get realistic about our expectations for sure

The complete absence of street lamps in Cobham not helping snow verification but it is 1.6c outside so reckon it’s sleeting at least !!??

Settling here and already 1.5cm at only 17m asl, however it’s probably the ‘wettest’ snow I think I’ve seen, can’t see it hanging around very long.

Quick question for a beginner, when elevation is talked about what is the norm? Low, high?  I realise the mountains etc are high but for us normal people! I've never looked, and assumed we are low as we are in a valley, ours says 375ft?

Still snowing here, but small flurries not the big flakes you really want!

Thanks :)

Hi @paget Im at 80 metres above sea level (its currently snowing but not sticking to anything). I would say if you are above 150 metres that would always be of help in these marginal situations, however, some of the more experienced members maybe able to provide a more scientific answer ☺. Whats more notable here is the wind, really howling! Have a nice day.
