We are forecast heavy snow for all of southeast, just wait trust me it will come, similar to yesterday, read it’s due to the warm sea temperatures at this early stage of winter

We got about 30 mins of snow yesterday otherwise it was all rain - here’s hoping for more!

Interesting from the met office app for Reigate...

I’ve got intermittent sleet in the barren flatlands of Horley GP, which usually bodes well for Reigate!

Hi Justin - that's only the case if the air high up is very cold. This morning it isn't. In fact it wasn't yesterday either!

2.7c with cold rain, but then I didn't expect anything different as that's all I saw yesterday here in West Sussex.

As you say, many are driven to school and part of today's problem is that it is so easy to send a round robin E-Mail, or telephone to say school is cancelled.

I wonder whether the cancellation is ever due to the reluctance of the staff to make their way in, if that is the case, aren't they setting a bad example?

I have had a couple of days off for snow in my time ( both heating issues) and once during the great 80's storm due to the gym roof being blown off.

You have hit the nail on the head though.

The Head made the call due to her staff saying they felt it too dangerous to get in, stating a good fair few live out of the Bedford area, no mention of the childrens safety.  We live not five minutes away and I had already had bub's snow boots to hand so we could walk into school as we wouldn't have an excuse - In fact we were looking forward to the walk ( but it must of rained in the night or something, we have lost a lot of cover)

I am one of the fortunate ones that it doesn't worry me either way, bubs can go in what snows that left and have a bit more fun.

Although I dare say that when I worked in shefford, we had heavy snow one winter and I had to travel down roads i didn't know seeing cars in ditches . These were nasty windy country roads, and although i got to work it wasn't fun.

Please stop pointing the finger, in the world that schools sees pupils as figures and stats let them be children for once and enjoy the rare snow.

Good morning all. Two unrelated thoughts. No, three (Spanish Inquisition moment) unrelated thoughts:

1. The south-east isn't per se any more marginal than anywhere else. We fell the wrong side of the snow because yesterday's low tracked along the M4. Had it been along the English Channel we'd have had bucket loads of snow. It has nothing else to do with intrinsic lack of snow capability. Promise you :)

2. It's okay to say schools shouldn't shut, but suppose a school bus did skid on ice / snow and killed a child. Could you live with that? I couldn't.

3. It's snowing in Woking, although not settling.

Slight melt taking place still cloudy no rain or snow.  Heading 40 miles south would be interesting to see the contrast
