Lying snow has all but melted and the wind has backed to WNW, sun is making fleeting appearance. Hopefully the lull before the storm?:D

Saw a few flakes in Grays today but not much as there was not enough cloud.  The temperature now is 3.0 °C , last hour variation -0.2 °C , average temperature 0.8 °C , apparent temperature -0.6 °C  and the dew point is -1.7 °C .

I suspect there may be a few nice surprises for this region overnight, with the latest UK4 showing showers working their way southwards through the wash - bearing in mind it missed the earlier band of showers which worked their way down the M11 and into London and beyond, it could be that as usual in these situations the models are underplaying the shower potential

Air mass becomes less cold in the SE through this evening and tonight unfortunately.

Let’s face it guys, this is about as good as it gets for our little island.

Cold with rain interspersed by mild with rain and the occasional frost. I can count on one hand the memorable winters in my lifetime.

Anyway rant over :aggressive:

Not till early morning though

UKV has the 850 wet bulbs rising to 2/3c through this evening, surface cold remains but less conducive for snowfall than this morning/early afternoon with wet bulbs not far off freezing. EC similar, although Euro4 does delay it slightly.

I'm surprised the met office haven't covered their butts and extended the warning down through the south east as a precautionary measure, considering many have snow showers already today and its not til this evening it'll get interesting.

Was going to post another pick but it will not upload , but the last forecast on the Beeb showed showers pushing through the London areas and a bit further this evening it then showed later in the night the showers continuing turning to sleet and rain as morning approaches .

The main bulk of any showers affecting the SE won't be until the final few hours of the night, by this point the properly cold air will have been shifted, so the chances of meaningful lying snow are remote. Can't entirely rule out a dusting over higher ground in Kent, but otherwise I'd be very surprised if there's anything near the wintriness in NE England.

Thanks for the update. That's a shame - so close.

To illustrate my point, here is the UKV for 07:00 tomorrow morning, really the peak of shower activity for the SE...

And the corresponding dew points, sadly on the wrong side of marginal...

Interestingly enough though, the Netwx (which has recently been upgraded to 3km btw!), has showers coming through a bit earlier, while dewpoints are still just about ok..

Already going the wrong side of marginal here, Nick; even the heavy bursts are now falling as sleet!:cray:

HIRLAM has similar. So it's Netwx/HIRLAM vs Euro 4/UKV :D

Interesting given that the wind is supposed to veer to what you'd expect to be a colder direction.  Do we know why temperatures are expected to increase?

The Ipswich snow shield is holding firm, showers going round, petering out or forming downstream so far. :wallbash:
