I haven't had time to do my statistics for a while, so i'll do it now while I have some..

October was quite a dull month and had 20 rain days. Most of them came from the middle of the month and making a 10 days wet streak. No frosts, but the minimum temperature I recorded was lower than last years.

This was the warmest October in 135 years of records easily outdoing previous top ranker 1963 by 0.4 of a degree. Records were set for mean maximum and mean minimum temperature. The anomaly was +2.2c above 1981-2010 ( in brackets below ) or +2.3c above 1961-90. For Tasmania as a whole it was the second warmest October, behind 1963.

Average maximum:  20.0 ( +2.7 )

Average minimum:  10.0 ( +1.7 )

Rainfall:  33mm ( average 61mm )

Rain days ( +1mm ):  8/from 16

Normally wet and windy with frequent fronts from the west, cold incursions wrapping up from the south and snow persisting in the mountains. This month, largely settled and mild to warm in a summery type pattern. Colder onshore winds from the east between the 4th-6th with low cloud, drizzle and a little rain. The wettest day was 11mm on the night of the 29th on a frontal rain band.

Extremes in daily temperature for October ( records since 1882 ):

Highest maximum:  31.9.....18th ( record 34.6 in 1987 )

Lowest maximum:  10.8.....4th ( record 6.0 in 1958 )

Highest minimum:  17.1.....19th ( record 20.2 in 1933 )

Lowest minimum:  5.4....31st ( record 0.0 in 1889 )

Cantley weather summary October 2017

A dry month even though the number of days it rained were above the 20+ year average. Only half the average rainfall for the month.

Also a mild month with values averaging out near  to 2.0 C above the normal values. The warmest day was on the 14 th with 21.5 C the second highest for this far into October. It also showed the lowest day max on the 30th of 11.2 C the lowest since the 25 th of April. The first ground frost of the season on the same day.

 Mean =13.1 (11.3)

Avge Max=16.5 (14.6) with the highest on 14 th with 21.5 and the lowest by day on the 30 th with 11.2

Avge Min=9.6 (7.9) the coldest night was the 30 th  with 0.9 and the warmest night with 16.0 on the 14th

 Rainfall was 20.0 mm the average is around 44.0 mm, the wettest day being the 19 th with 7.2 mm; 13 days with 0.2 mm or more and 7 with 1.0 mm or more

No snow or hail or fog (5) unusually, with 1 ground frost
