After getting obscenely drunk last night, I missed most of today, although the garden fence is still up - just.

Should this be on the helpful medical thread?

High heels (as in your avatar) a bad idea in strong winds?:D:p

If I’d had the foresight to wear those shoes they would have at least plugged me into the soft grass and given better stability in those gusts

Intense rain for several hours has brought flooding in the Rossendale Valley and there are flood warnings on the River Irwell and the Calder at Todmorden, both of which are at their highest levels since Boxing Day 2015.

not expecting anything that serious but problems are starting to develop

Flood warnings over most of the Calder valley. Hebden Bridge is getting it again :(

^ Beaten. Expect similar ones to pop up for parts to the North of it as well, thats been getting a pasting as well going on the radar. Thankfully not much of the Aire's catchment areas are being hit so shouldn't cause flooding down stream.

The Flood Sirens have been triggered in Hebden Bridge. That Town seems to be doomed to flood almost every year now :(

Aberdaron, along with Capel Curig top the mainland wind gusts speeds again at 78 mph. Not as high as 90mph with Ophelia.

Heres at Aberdaron is why there were warnings out for tidal surges this morning..

On Twitter, Matt Hugo is currently posting a lot on flood problems in the north:

Pretty sure Matt Hugo lives in Rossendale as well.

its certainly been pretty bad around the valley but it looks like the rain has eased off a bit although not before roads and plenty of properties have been flooded.

One max gust of 37mph here at some point in the afternoon with mostly 30mph gusts throughout.

It was a nice windy day with some sunshine at times and with your typical windy day level winds we get throughout autumn.

I was expecting it to be stronger to be honest with a named storm coming in with max gusts of Force 8 to 9 rather then the Force 6 to 7 we got.

I made the right call staying put instead of heading to the Yorkshire Moors for the Y3P race this afternoon, Hawes under a flood watch currently with reports from runners that some of the paths off the hills were like small rivers. Here in the Peaks we've had some fairly lively gusts this afternoon with heavy rain setting in since 8pm. A day for keeping home and watching the USA F1 qualifying.

Speaking from a totally IMBY perspective, Storm Brian was a damp squib... A dull, grey, wet Saturday afternoon, with nothing more than a gentle breeze.
Today, is at least bright and sunny with a good strong(ish) blustery wind... But neither this or Storm Aileen last month, have come close to what Storm Doris was like earlier this year.

Yes we didn't get much of it here as the winds this morning are not much lower then what we had yesterday.

many non named storms affected my area more than this one, un-named storm of June 6th especially, tomorrow looks the worst here, wetter than so called storm Brian

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
