New member here, thanks to all for a fascinating and useful thread

Here in York it's been almost flat calm this morning though a zephyr has just begun. The sun has yet to break through but it's about 16C and humid

Had a walk to my allotment earlier and here too there's an eerie grey-yellow mistiness and very little birdsong or flight. Reminds me of the morning of the significant partial solar eclipse a couple of years ago which covered around 80% of the sun

The response of animals to imminent 'natural disasters' is interesting. If I recall correctly there were reports of Elephants and other mammals in the coastal regions of the Indian subcontinent becoming fractious and wanting to head inland well before the Boxing Day Tsunami struck

I can't recall opening doors and windows to let warm air IN to the house before.

House is to warm as it is, keeping windows closed to keep heat out, in October, defo never done that before. Breaze is starting here.

Thanks to Ophelia, my October CET guess (12.4) has gone from being laughably too-high to possible too low!:wallbash:

Here in the North Pennines of Northumberland is currently calm, drizzling with yellow sky. Garden solar lights are on as well! Top gusts forecast here are 68-72 tomorrow morning.

Fastnet Rock just reported sustained winds of 94mph.

That's almost Cat 2 hurricane equivalent. Oh dear. Hopefully that is the peak.

I note West Wales and SW Scotland has got an amber warning now - has that only just gone up or have I missed something?

Very eerie looking here now with yellow skies and becoming increasingly dark.

It went up around 9 am, bit too late for hubby who was by then firmly ensconced at work which is well outside even the yellow area!
