Anyone know the source & accuracy of their data. Observations and metar data appear to be from weather stations but higher than reported here on NW?

Getting really blustery here in Bucks. Currently at work, got the torch and generator instructions at the ready. The power seems to go off at the drop of a hat around these parts.

Quite! Hence my question but Met Office says 62mph earlier in Shawbury.

Yep, nonsense data methinks. 62mph is plausible, but nearly 80mph no chance IMO. Birmingham and Birmingham airport only got to low-mid 40s.

Accu-weather source for current and forecast data apparently. Maybe some rogue observation stations in there amongst the pucker ones !?!:cc_confused:

I was about to say that if there were 80mph gusts, the damage would have been newsworthy. But as it was Wolverhampton it would be difficult to tell the difference...

Making a racket in North Tyneside now.  Must be between 60 - 70 mph as the house is shaking.

I would guess that they are km/h values. Portland didn't see 68mph yesterday or since midnight. Max gust at Portland was 47mph yesterday. According to those stats, 68.4 mph was recorded in the last 4 hours, but 68.4 km/h would be 43mph, which makes more sense.

Nowhere near to that level down south relatively calm in comparison.

I’d say strongest gusts here have reached 40 mph at most. The strongest of the winds are spreading into SW Scotland still parts of NW Wales experiencing gusts in the high 70s a right prolonged wallop, with sustained winds of 55 mph at Aberadon - must be a very exposed location.

Few branches down and trees swaying here now, still barely severe gale force so looks like the central belt is missing most of the action.

Very gusty and windy night here on the Malvern Hills. I don't know if there are any official wind measurements up here, we get far stronger wind than down in Great Malvern due to the altitude. Still dark so not been out to see how things look. Finally seems to be calming down now after many hours.

Morning everyone.
Well, I know we've got a fair few branches down (as of a walk yesterday evening), and that the wind has died down from what it was last night, but other than that we've held up ok here. :good:
I'll do a full assessment later once the sun has come up.
