Well the feature is still there on the 20:38 updated image.  Not sure if it's going to deepen much but worth keeping an eye on for sure (no pun intended!)

How can it be a secondary depression... From what I'm seeing the pressure is higher closer to its centre? If anything it's a ridge of high pressure or am I being thick. It doesn't seem to make sense to me!

This large branch (it looks small in the pic but it wasn't) came down in the 45min I was up by the reservoir, it would have caused some serious injury if anyone was unfortunate to be underneath. Did my 'good deeds' and cleared it out of the road.

I think you maybe right. The obs map isn't very clear but I think it's a small ridge of high pressure?

The contours would seem to make sense if it is a pocket of high pressure.  But if it's a faulty buoy then maybe the model is just trying to depict this anomaly.

High pressure is to the near continent it is simply faulty. I'm not sure whether it's a secondary low they can be quite potent or XC weather is playing up..

Yes, it's definitely not a secondary low. It's an area of slightly higher pressure....... possibly a minor error from a nearby buoy, but it adds to the appearance of something else on the surface pressure map.

wind speeds just went from 60mph straight back to over 80mph again i expect fluctuations both up and down can be expected tn NW Wales. is this the sting jet anomaly if its even formed yet or is this just the cyclone itself? just a little question for you guys

Adding to the list of complaints about the BBC:

They're using the exact same photograph next to the stories about Barrow AFC and the football club in Ireland getting their roofs blown off.

They referred to Stormont as the Irish parliament earlier today.

Seems to be a broken buoy giving a false high pressure reading.

I believe a secondary low has formed to the west off you offshore 85mph gusts at  Aberdaron NW Wales - it fits with the very tight squeeze in isobars off that ‘feature’ by now the worst should be over.

Personally Ophelia never really happened here in Louth, although a man died here from a fallen tree, it was rather quiet where I was.

But consider 3 people died with a red warning for all counties, so many stayed at home, figure may have well been in double digits it if was not for the early warnings by Irish state services and weather services.

Going to be annoying tomorrow listening to all the "storm me backside" comments... what storm etc.

A storm is different for every person, it all depends where you live.

Police asking people to avoid the area.

Also problems in the Nantwich area.

cheers mate hopefully the secondary low doesn't do anything maybe that would've been the perfect storm type situation for us

Seems to have calmed down here in Ayrshire, or is it just a lull?

I thought that too for a while but then a big gust comes along and spoils it :)

All I can say is that Scottish, Welsh and Irish storms don't get the same coverage as do English storms...

In 1989, I watched tree after tree fall, during a Force-11+ storm-force 'gale', up in the NW Highlands...and despite it resembling those photos from Tunguska, it was hardly worth a word on the national News.

Agus, tha mi Sassenach!:shok:

How strange...I didn't think Crewe would be affected much.

Not been that bad here in Belfast.

That's because there isn't a secondary low pressure to the west of you, or anywhere nearby for that matter.
