Roches point recorded 90mph and Cork airport 89. Waterford was battered by high 70s gusts for several hours.  My family, who are pretty robust about bad weather, said it was as bad as 2013

Don't know if there was anything higher after that. Works out to around 68 mph mean wind, and 118 mph gust.

And another thing whilst I'm on a rant! I understand that there is a reluctance to over-warn people because if it doesn't come off then next time they might just ignore it. That is their choice! However if you fail to warn sufficiently, people can end up injured or dead because of the lack of warning and that is not by their choice.:wallbash: Right, I'm done ranting. Normal service will be resumed. :sorry:

As I said, that's my gut feeling, but the gist you speak of was way offshore, the inshore gusts don't appear so high

Indeed so.  Whilst today's storm was mighty impressive by UK/Ireland standards, it didn't quite match 1987's.  The minimum pressure recorded in '87 was 951 (although that was over the channel, not inland), with a sustained wind-speed of  87mph just off the Sussex coast.  115mph was recorded at Shoreham and even London recorded 94mph gusts.

Looks pretty dry at the start of that video.

What's probably happened there is that a group of inexperienced freshers decided that the ground looked dry so they'd have a watch. They won't be doing that again.

I suspect they they're freshers because the locals will know that just a little while back, large portions of the seafront were wrecked by crashing waves.

They probably thought it would be a laugh, not funny when one of them get dragged out to sea and the RNLI or coastguard then have to put their life’s at risk due to utter stupidity and lack of respect for Mother Nature

~If~ they were freshers, they quite probably didn't know any better.

They sure as hell do now though!

I could not believe my eyes. I took this picture this afternoon.  Not only is a woman holding a baby near the front, there is another letting her toddler lean through the railings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   What the hell is wrong with people?????????  They stayed there for some time. (Just to add the waves are 4 STORIES HIGH!)

Some people seriously either misunderstand the Meteorologist warnings or don't heed to it. "Oh they are just scaremongering!" "In my life I've had worse, its just a breeze!"

I know. Tried to put a confused emoticon but wouldn’t let me lol. One of the PSNI Facebook pages said the same thing. I thought it was strange.

Winds strong enough here but not as bad as earlier.

Will that dilute the power of the storm?
