It’s actually a lovely breezy day here in ayrshire. Just been out for a long walk with the dogs. Looking out to the west it’s clear something ominous is going on.

Well we now have ( 3.30ish) the very red Sun in the South East Kent, sky is a bit yellow but nothing like everyone else to the west of me have experienced.

it's a bit breezy but nothing exciting at all. Gutted I've missed all the decent weather tbh.

This is the weirdest sky I have ever seen. The sun has gone and there's now a sort of yellowish hue. Eerie...

i REALLY hope so, but knowing my luck it will end up going North of me or be a no show, im still quite new to this, how many days in advance can it realistically be "nailed on"?  like is it a good probability already?

EZY 1918 made a emergency landing today as 'burning' was smelt in the cabin, now thought to be associated with the Sahara dust-plume which it flew through.

Amazing, this is more like just before sunset than 1.20pm

Compared with the sun at 9.19pm on the eve of the longest day 2017 that I took

Incredible, a truely remarkable day, sort of thing that you only read in old weather reports of yore.

London looking like it's been plucked from the banks of the Thames onto Mars looking at the twitter-feed pictures

I'm at work in central London.  I popped outside to take some photos of the sky earlier, but my camera on my phone didn't do it justice.  The pictures above are exactly how the sky went - really eerie!

From a calm smelly gloom to a rapidly freshening (and fresh) breeze and bright sun in the space of an hour

Is York too far from the Pennines to be subjected to lee gusts?

A windy night and morning on the way, whatever

The sky really is still getting weirder: the sun has been reduced to a well-defined dull red ball...Similar to viewing it though a low-lying fog, only nuttier!:shok:

The air certainly smells very odd, along with the (formerly orange) now muddy yellow skies. It's quite fragrant, a bit like when you're sawing wood and you go through a knot.

Very poor air quality here, with an eerie red sun and orange tint to pretty much everything. (possibly causing my sore throat?)

A breeze seems to be developing too.

Could the key be is that it is a dry cold front?

If there was rain it would have washed out the pollutants? It would be interesting if there were just spots of rain falling with it, could be blood rain.

Interesting to note.. Looking at my solar data, at exactly midday, I recorded 9W/m² of solar energy. That's around the equivalent output just before sunset.

Remarkable, how did that compare to the 2015 solar eclipse, if you have the data?
