The UK media:

Hype up an isolated light rain shower in London.

Ignore a hurricane (soon to be ex-hurricane) approaching elsewhere.

Their reporting and the way they influence and mislead the public view on weather is infuriating.

Certainly looks like a damaging wind event for southern ireland and i wouldn't be surprised to see areas like Capel Curig/Mumbles Head pushing 80+ with an isolated 100mph somewhere near irish sea , maybe W Wales maybe eastern ireland coast.

Following these events I find it very worrying how the MET have failed to alert authorities in Wales over coming spell of Weather, looking at maps Wales in places could see higher wind gusts than Ireland and convection following and during could cause very dangerous conditions!

Why the delay/lack of info? Their twitter is quiet, warnings not updated and not even a headline or item on BBC Wales news in both Welsh and English? This has Feb 2014 all over it! we need MEt teams devolved across UK to strengthen local climatic knowledge and info dispersal!

The NI Executive in their infinite wisdom have closed all schools. I was waiting for them to stay it as 7 am, good that its 11 o'clock pm when everybody is asleep. Now people have no idea where they are going.

Because the initial fax chart didn't take into consideration the NHC still class(ed) her as a hurricane.

Totally agree with this. Wales, especially the western coasts can expect a very rough 24 hours ahead, As i mentioned a few minutes ago , i would not be surprised to see gusts to near 100mph on our shores.

Well, am I peed off! Met Office video re Ex-Ophelia barely mentioned Scotland at all and seemed to be focusing only on Ireland and England. Ridiculous :angry:

Only The Mirror and The Sun barely mentions Ophelia on the front pages for tommorow. The Express is the only one that mentions Ophelia most of front page.

Other papers not one word of Ophelia mentioned.

This little gem from the NHC stuck out. Tropical storm force wind field 510 miles in diameter :help:

"Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 255 miles (405 km)"

didn't you know - Wales closes on a Sunday - I can see Derek in Barrybados now sipping his cocktails saying, "nothing to see here" lol - BBC Wales news just seemed to pass over it just now, newsreader seemingly seeing it as another "ordinary day" of weather - could be some red faces after this
