Pretty much the largest waves in the world in UK waters by Monday - ruling out rogue waves of course..

Please do heed warnings and be extra sensible if you try and get close to the sea to observe or indeed up mountains etc. If you do get into trouble invariably emergency services or the RNLI and mountain rescue teams, many of whom are volunteers, then have to get involved to rescue you because you were putting yourself needlessly at risk.

Don't be stupid!

On that note, to all emergency services who have to go out on shouts in the coming rough weather, thank you and come home safe!

I echo these thoughts.

If you are planning on heading out take food, water and blankets, typical emergency things. Research the place you're going to if you don't know it and go there before the storm hits to get an idea of the layout, topography/exit routes in an emergency.

Its going to be strange in Scotland to have a serious storm that moves up from south to north so much. Im more used to them moving west east.

the winds even here bin the Midlands are show as getting up to 60mph. We've not had that so far for a year or two, and with the leaves being still on, it's going to be dodgy

Damn, the Azores lucked out there. Very close to a catastrophe.

But still, a Cat 3 storm that close to mainland Europe is in itself remarkable. Almost unbelievable. Truly historical.

Interesting that parts of Scotland in the 20-30% chance of true hurricane force conditions. Not expected to weaken that quickly, then.

This tweet illustrates nicely just how Ophelia stands out from the crowd of major hurricanes over the years as being unusually far east, a big outlier

That's the ICON model's take on things, switch to the GFS and it's a lot tamer for the east coast of Ireland. I highly doubt it will verify like the ICON is showing, but it is possible.
