Something to keep an eye on for Wednesday in to Thursday. This feature has been modeled for the past couple of days. At the moment, you could make a shout from anywhere from Southern Ireland to the South coast in the path of gales or perhaps severe gales.

Yes I know.

Where is the Atlantic storms thread that should be up about now with the discussions.

It is quite a breezy evening here already.

Some of the wind gust charts show 50-60mph gusts quite a way inland, so its going to be quite a blow tomorrow if these are true.

Might catch some by surprise given how calm its been recently!

If an amber warning is issued it will be named Caroline.

Yep...pretty bad here. Max gust at nearby Capel Curig was 79mph. It took my bins out again!

Surprisingly poor here. I did have a 36mph gust this morning, but it's barely gusting to 25mph now. I always say that each wind event is different, but it seems as though we're being sheltered here. We'll have to see what occurs later in the day!

Wind is rapidly picking up now, attic cover has been displaced.

Just like Mapantz said it didn't really produce here either with just a top gust of 36mph in the evening and 25-32mph gusts throughout the day which is what we get quite often on days that don't have a warning out.

I wonder if Sunday's snow event be a named storm?

Quote

A storm will be named on the basis of 'medium' or 'high' impacts from wind but also include the impacts of rain and snow

Given amber warnings are out and 10cm of snow is widely expected in the amber area and up to 20cm in places, I think that qualifies as  'medium' or 'high' impacts

I think they name storms based on wind impact only. I think they name them once there's an orange wind warning?

I pointed out in my regional thread yesterday, there's likely to be a significant pressure drop in the 24 hours. For example, I was at 1020mb at 10am this morning. At 10am tomorrow, pressure is projected to be in the high 970's - a good 35mb + drop in 24 hours.

The Met actually name storms from any type of severe weather once they deem the impacts to be medium or high. I'm guessing that as this system is effecting the country on a Sunday, they aren't too overly concerned, and colour warnings will service.

Mondays however, is a different story. With a front possibly arriving for Monday rush hours and the chance of strong winds, I wouldn't be surprised to see a named system either today or tomorrow. (unless the track changes of course).

As I quoted above it covers wind, rain and snow

After it gusting to 30-40mph this morning with a top gust of 43mph it has died down now with light rain or snow and winds of 5-15mph.

Looks like most of the worst of the winds are affecting the coastal areas as the winds here only lasted for about an hour or so.
