I'll go for 9.3C... An average to slightly cooler start, with a gradual cooling thereafter due to that lovely scandi high edging over!

10.4c. My one hope for oct is that we dont get another bloody mild / very mild end that we have got for the past few yrs.

Pretty mild start by the GFS. Still a long way out, but high 12s after the first week is the current forecast.

For now, I'll take a stab at 11.2C

IN case I run out of time.
There is nothing really dramatic looking either way so just above average one feels.

11.1c please

Slightly above average 11.1 degrees, expecting mixed conditions throughout nothing overly mild or cold at any point, perhaps a settled frosty period at some stage. A very average month all round.

11.5c.  Massive swings in weather behaviour this month.  But as no sustainabilty in weather type I'll suspect that we'll come out above.  Very interesting month.....signs for winter flavour?

I like what ECM is showing over next 10 days as a theme

I'm holding course with my prediction.

We are currently forecast to see a significant westerly wind burst in the east pacific (likely the elastic band effect of some monster trades over the past month) and though they are not likely to persist in the medium term they should provide downstream amplification of the pattern.

Although i originally feared this would lead to another mild October, the models do appear to suggest that the amplification will occur over the Atlantic with some kind of northerly element to the weather for the UK.

I think a variable month is on the cards with no particular weather type dominating.  I will go for 10.6C please, bang on the 61-90 average!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
