where is the eye currently? when is/was the worst in San Juan

Hasn't reached San Juan yet. Half of eye is now on shore and it has about an eye's width between the eye wall and San Juan. So maybe a couple of hours to go. I've lost my scale thing for my map (processor not a happy bunny). Maybe someone with processing power in excess of my 10 W bulb equivalent can give a more precise answer.

I have to say, I'm rather pleased that she stopped intensifying when she did last night. I don't know whether the reason for that was the beginning of an ERC, or whether the ERC was caused by a limit to her intensification...

... but I do know that it's the best thing that could have happened for PR. In the event, it might seem as though it makes no difference... but it could potentially have been worse, nomatter what the level of damage.

It looks to be about half an hour or so from passing directly over San Juan. The eye is closing up as it passes over land but recon found nearly 100mph winds just off the cost of the city an hour ago.

I'm watching the Brandon Clement live feed from San Juan. It's coming from a car with wipers on in a parking garage with a huge dumpster in front of the opening. Sounds rubbish except the trees are spectacular and the huge dumpster is starting to lift at one end. The guys have already had to dodge debris - a huge sheet of corrugated iron. Someone here gave me the link earlier and it's a goodie

Yes, it just seemed to take it up a notch. I love weather but that is just a bit OTT.

Mike Theiss is hunkered down.

He even has a "safe room" in his hotel.

Eye of Maria should now be clearing north coast of Puerto Rico.

Images from 1.15pm UK time shows eye on western fringes of San Juan (on north coast of island).

It's maintained a well organised structure to it, despite obvious weakening. I believe it has room to re intensify but the SST's aren't quite as useful and wind shear will become a factor soon.

A lot of pics / videos on that Twitter page, looks bad. Rainfall rates between 5 to 7 inches per hour.

It occurs to me that video of the incoming serious storm surge never seems to surface. You get videos of the flooding, but never the onset. It seems almost a little odd when you consider that there are so many videos of incoming tsunami from all over the world...

... but between power going down and all. And perhaps more importantly, it just goes to show how important and how thorough the warning systems for hurricanes are.
