Keeping my eye on that line developing in the Irish Sea/west Wales which is indicative of sharp wind veer and could bring stronger gusts down to ground-level as it passes. Manchester METAR has 60mph gusts forecast between now and 4am as that line passes over.

 I'm guessing that's the cold front then and so south of the low's centre.

Yep, obs showing the low-center is offshore Lancashire between Blackpool and the IOM. The strongest winds along a line from Holyhead to Cardiff following alongside the cold front.

Had some heavy rain and wind round about 7pm, but it's dead quiet now. I was looking forward to being lulled to sleep by the wind and rain.

Was raining for a few hours this evening but nothing special, no wind either as expected. 

 

God I can't wait for Atlantic storms this year, they better deliver!!

63mph gust recorded at Heathrow at 4am http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=current;type=maxg and no wind warning on my Meto app :nea:

It has been quite lively out there for the last few hours so hope the trees have stood firm, too dark to see right now.

Lovely Aileen woke me up. Plenty of bins I think were airborne. Seem the wind gusts got to around 40mph but we had a few higher ones am sure. 

Could have done without been woken up last night.

So Heathrow outside of the warning areas takes seconds place last night with a gust of 63mph. I'm finding that hard to believe unless it was associated with some kind of shower. Have seen a fair few branches down on my way to work, did a 2 mile drive from the village I am in to the nearest town and stopped and moved 2 branches out the way. Nothing major damage wise from this one I don't think, just the usual branches and fences fallen down

A lot calmer now, recent gust of 44mph according to my met office app so no idea what was going on earlier. Except not much sleep due to the noise..  Small branches scattered down the back garden and I can see a pergola damaged in next door's garden.  But my trees are still standing :)

So was storm Aileen a proper roof tile rattler, or just a crisp packet stirrer? 

I dunno, because I managed to snore me way through the entire thing! And I had the window open all night! Lol :laugh:

But I am hearing reports on the news of trees down in Cheshire and Staffordshire... So it must have been a tad breezy at some point in the night. :unsure2:

Although I was firmly in the Amber warning area, I haven't noticed
this to be much more than breezy.
Made lots of preps thinking it was going to be pretty bad.
