Apparently they said it's starting in Miami.

I just watched a video from Old Town, Key West (near furthest west point) - posted an hour ago - people out walking their dog ...

Are you quite sure that it isn't a kite?

Irma is moving verrrryyyy slooooowwwwwlly...

I would have thought that given her slow moving, she'd have picked up more strength by now, although she's still a Cat 4 (according to CNN). I'm guessing the appearance of her EW being knocked down a bit means she's actually weakened rather than strengthen (due to shear) ... Is there a potential for her to strengthen again given her slow movement?

:D:D Definitely a dog (a small one at that) - sniffing around some downed trees in the middle of the road.

On another note, an area in West Marathon seems to have a lot of water coming in fast.

This is a still image from quite a fierce video posted two hours ago in the Keys.

People seem to be coming out now to have a look while the eye passes over

Looks like the Storm surge will be the key talking point later today.

Big storm surge headed toward Marco Island and Everglades. Coming next to Naples.

I don't know where this is, but seems to be in the Keys somewhere - he mentioned something about milemarker 15, but couldn't quite make it out.

Seems to have a death wish. Just been standing for ages in the middle of a tree lined road full of large bits of broken tree.

I think flying branches are the least of his problems, is there any high buildings in the area, it looks as flat as a pan cake with single floor building around. He needs to move.

the elevation of plantation key is 7 ft.

its high point is 15 to 20 ft.

http://www.peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=34746

Currently, the tide height at Key west is about 3.5 feet above normal sea level, and rising quickly.

I think the wind speed for rating the catagory of a hurricane is the speed high up whereas the speed is less lower down where the instruments in the keys are hence they are reporting lower numbers.

Was expecting that, they will probably all drop. I'm assuming there's more than one scraper with a crane up.
