Hey all what did I miss? long day of work today.

If someone wouldn't mind doing me a huge favour and summarizing what has happened that would be really appreciated, no worries if not, but I am out of date (since late last night).

Not sure if this has been posted but I've been watching it since I got back:

closed concentric eyewalls at 15 and 30 miles wide.

Still has two eyes, trying another replacement cycle, will this one happen. I actaully hope it doesn't.

To be fair, it's now 19:07z. It's only been 37min since that observation was made. Give her a chance!

The warm waters of the gulf have got to be like Nitros though to this thing soon.

*nods*

Pretty much going to be watching with horror if she goes through more than one. Think is, she's over the bathwater right now. Rapid intensification is all but inevitable. The only thing that'll slow her down is a failure to quickly complete ECRs, as far as I can see. This one will almost certainly complete though.

Is there any high land on that island, i don't think they can get off now, although it was a while ago, may be they did after all the messing around. Got fingers crossed for them.

The State of Florida has opened "shelters of last resort" on the keys within the last few hours, just to give those who for whatever reason haven't evacuated somewhere to go.

It wasn't a while ago. It was a few minutes back... just in Eastern Time rather than BST.

Beginning to see some white caps on the waves here. The occasional person wandering along the pier with no idea that they're probably about to die (unless they're getting far far away from the Keys soon. They should probably be aware of the few "shelters of last resort" that the state has just opened for them on the Keys.

someone just arrived on a mobility scooter!!!!

Here's a few weather stations on the west coast from Tampa down to the keys.

Fort Myers

Naples

Venice (Pier)

Pulaski Shoals Light (right out past the end of the Keys in an open water reserve)

Tampa Bay

OK. Now that's a bit insane.

Already at Key West the water is 0.9ft above predicted, and still rising.

The time is Florida time, so I'm guessing pic is literally 15 minutes ago. No escape unfortunately.

Not working

It appears to be a live static cam... but it also appears to come in and out of service. Probably overloaded by the interest of the rest of the USA.

I would tend to agree, there is still plenty of warm ocean to cross before landfall.
