Storm surge under Irma causes a bulge in sea levels owing to low barometric pressure under the storm system, so sucks in water from outside ,similar  thing happens with tsunamis .

either the wind direction pushing water out or meteotsunami from intense air pressure, most likeley to do with storm surge and winds, interesting video

Was that before or after surge?

What i'm thinking is tge water was else where because of the wind probably pushing away. Surges are big movemenrs of water, it can't really rise somewhere without leaving somewhere else.

This evening's ecm has gusts in the 100-120kt range as Irma runs up the west coast Monday 00-06

Beginning to see some white caps on the waves here. The occasional person wandering along the pier with no idea that they're probably about to die (unless they're getting far far away from the Keys soon. They should probably be aware of the few "shelters of last resort" that the state has just opened for them on the Keys.

I wonder which way it will go east or west. Still not nailed down.

Well, question was asked where the water went from that beach.

This is a weather station in the Keys showing observed water levels against predicted. Currently running 1' above predicted so I guess some is there instead of on that beach!

Yes, the time capture suggests 630pm UK time so the storm hasn't really got going yet and it's already washing up and over the sea wall.

Pressure of 939 found at 18:30z.

(As a point of interest, that's the first time, that I've noticed, that the sonde measurement has been lowed than the estimated surface preassure in the HDObs.. and by a few milibars at that.)

Oh you confused me when you said east coast, don't know why though as the whole of florida will have high gusts, think i thought you meant the eye.
