Yeah... Irma wasn't forecast to do that... in the current models. She was forecast to do that in earlier runs though. Can't dismiss it as a distinct possibility. Either way, she's pulled of the coast a little way sooner than expected, which can only give her time to get it together.

Rapid intensification ahead, I suspect.

Watch last two frames on funktop loop, it explodes..

Jeff now tracking multiple tornado warned storms. He also reports that people who were evacuated from the east coast to the SW are now being sent back East. https://www.pscp.tv/w/bIK5wjFQbUVxWFhOWk1Oam98MW1uR2VtT1lxTUFHWHhubFq-GVAvlnxGQYWI1yrgb2FPzxqbU4qXIDmc5iui

Not sure thats a good idea, think they need to go central and a bit north instead, just have a feeling in my gut, its not going as west as thought now.

Flooding in Cuba. It must be taking a real battering with Irma just hanging there.

Yes last 2 reps - were off & running-

a jog north / significant convection, a rapid increase in size & the shape becoming very anular-

will we see sub 900....?

How quickly it reacted to clear waters are definite sign it stands a chance to; really hope the message gets out quickly if this really has turned earlier than expected.

Yep agreed. Got a bad feeling about this, is it too late now to move everyone again?

Hurricanes are so unpredictable when they become coast skimmers like this, they are so sensitive to the land.

Was it a turn or is it a step wobble, seen it before it like the whole system shifts when it eventually leaves land again, when you watch the loops the system blooms on the western half and then the step, I suspect it might be due to the western wall clearing land and reinvigorating, pushing the whole eye east.

Think of the bouncing bomb, it kinda skips the coast, each time the western half can it explodes and "bounces" the eye along the coast.

Can someone explain why the sea has disappeared? Apparently this was taken on Long Island, Bahamas.

Couple of wallies in Key West. They don't look that old either.

If that's now surely once the real rough stuff comes along those people have no where to go. Why did people on the islands stay.

Well, there's two possibilities for that.

Either the shallow shelf has been cleared of water by the force of the hurricane, and what was once water there is now storm surge elsewhere...

... or we won't be hearing from her again because she failed to recognise the first sign of an incoming tsunami.

Potentially, elements of both.
