Irma is current travelling a little north of track, not good for the islands.

Compared to which model though? Further north should mean less interaction with the mountains of Cuba but also better news for southeast Florida as she may curve northwards earlier.

Perhaps we are just presuming he is doing the forecasting work, perhaps general reporting? Perhaps going to help at shelter etc?

don't think he's is going to do volunteer work ! quite clear he is going out as part of the reporting team - i think he is fully qualified meto

I think it's just a general straight line track, probably by NHC, but of course hurricanes don't go in straight lines, they go up and down.

Ec has stuck to its guns.

If anything its moved towards what the UKMO was showing at 0Z very similar track, skirts along the top of Cuba then spins up in too South Western Florida. Its probably the worst possible track as its going over the warmest seas, and hitting the part of Florida less able to cope with a hit of this power.

Ec just tracks it up Florida. Close enough to Miami to be a hit but also tampa etc.

Yikes, that's a big jump west. Still shows how 3 days is a long time in weather terms..

Well we shall see what track it takes. At least Jose it's going to bend away northwards and not follow the same track.

If Hurricane #Irma takes ECMWF 12z slightly west track, huge wind gusts for Florida from Keys to Miami, Tampa & Orlando, Tallahassee & Jax.

This tweet just goes to show the size and intensity of this storm!

Replying to @RyanMaue @ECMWF

This plausible track scenario highlights extreme inland wind gusts well in excess of 70-90 mph all the way to Atlanta

Sobering stuff and very similar to what the ECM is showing.  Given the very high SST's south of Florida and apparent low wind shear, significant weakening is highly unlikely and I would imagine further intensification can't be ruled out?

He is mounting phone on a tripod and said that he will still be broadcasting in 2 hours... this is from Grace bay in the T&C's, apparently the eye is heading for this part.

Well the tripod won't last long. I presume it's mounted inside and filming from there.
