Southern Florida has been in the middle of the spread all along. Uncertainty is definitely increasing, and yet that fact seems vaguely consistent, which may or may not mean something.

I think ECM was taking it a bit further West, while other models were targeting southern Florida. Now ECM hits southern Florida, while the others are going East of Florida. Trend is eastwards, and a Hurricane Matthew type track is quite possible. But Florida still very much at risk.

Point above about storm surges is also well taken.

I think a lot of the sustained gusts were around the 155MPH mark, rather than the 185 earlier projected.

Bear in mind St. Maarten didn't even get the strongest part of the eyewall (that was to the north) and the winds were still incredible. Can't remember the last time I saw worse winds than in the video I posted.

Sadly it also looks like Irma will also directly hit the British Virgin Islands (In particular Virgin Gorda ...Richard B hunkered down on Necker Is and also Tortola, where family friends and godparents to our children live)

Oh my.. (from 18 hours ago)

Hurricane Irma is so strong it's starting to show up on seismometers in the Caribbean -- equipment designed to measure earthquakes.

What, how, is it actually shaking the ground?

They said on the news (yesterday) due to the effect on trees and also the storm surge, either way, mind blowing. The footage is other worldly, like a human colony on Neptune or something.

cowdog^^^^ the footage has since changed, it was live, showing people trying to rescue passengers from an over turned coach but they couldn't get to them due to the wind.
