Snippet from the NOAA NHC discussion regarding Irma now at 180mph.

"This makes Irma the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic
basin outside of the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in the NHC records."

Winds now 180mph.

Link below shows Radar simulation from NOAA's flagship hurricane model (HWRF) for Category 5 Hurricane #Irma for next 5-days. She's doing a very deft tiptoe between the islands before raking over the Keys and making full landfall in the Everglades national park. In this run Miami is going to avoid a full hit but it's going to take a pounding What is it, 6ft above sea level?? Also Homestead looks like it's well in line, population 70k

As in reviewed and updated to account for max-sustained windspeed, other than damage caused by windspeed which the Saffir-Simpson scale is based from.

In terms of wind speed perhaps but not central pressure - Isabel reached 915mb north of the Caribbean.

The way things are going though I wouldn't put it past Irma to surpass that figure...

You probably don't have to hope very hard for that. I mean, there's always a ~chance~, but in this case it's pretty small.
