It's the first time I think I've seen it happen, but 'Lucifer' was quite a severe one, so may have started a trend.

That's why I ask, because I can't think of another named heatwave, so it must be a new thing.

only snow we'll see (for me)

I did not know they had named that heat wave . well i never. (as in official)

Perhaps they will do another name if it gets really cold.

Summer comes to an end in Spitzbergen over the coming few days with snow and sub zero temps in the Northern Parts of the Islands for a time.

As promised the first snow showers of the season arrived this morning in the Ny Alesund, down to sea level.

Thanks for the heads-up. I contemplated adding the Spitzbergen cams to my browser ready for the new season only yesterday, but told myself it is too early(!).

Worth taking a look at the Hobart webcam ( in my signature ) throughout Friday and into Saturday ( we are 9 hours ahead  ) if you like updated snow images, snow forecast to settle in the lower hills near the seafront, should be the most wintery scenes of the year for us.

Timelapse view of 12 August in that link in my signature looks great too !

That timelapse is so good. Will keep an eye out for the southern hemisphere snow over the weekend:)
