It maybe the hottest late August Bank holiday on record but is it the hottest August Bank Holiday?

The August Bank Holiday was the first Monday in August from the 1870s to 1964 it has to be remembered.

A good point, I was surprised that we broke the record today with such a low max, that explains things.. The heat must have broke in time in 1995..

Today has been another disappointing summers day, in a long run of many this year, overcast, drizzle on and off this morning, further drizzle this evening.. Just in time for September we have a high pressure set to envelop the country, a rare feature since early July.. becoming the norm now..

New data takes the highest bank holiday temp down to 27.2C in 1984, as a result, today is officially hottest late August Bank Holiday on record

28.2C Holbeach, Lincolnshire

Why was this revised? A genuine cock up?

Yeah... 'New data'?

How much new data can you have after 33 years?

I feel it's a slightly surprising record too as it's reached 35C in September before and reached 34.4C on the 13th September last year, and to that effect the notability's been a bit over-done by some. Local radio station on Sunday bigged it up as possible 'record temperatures' (not making it clear it was just the bank holiday record).

Anyway, a very welcome nice 3/4 days here which has raised August's overall rating slightly, although it seems we're going to miss out by a hair's width here today, and then tomorrow is forecast a max of 14C.

There aren't many more cringeworthy things in life than local radio discussing the weather! I have to turn it off in the car to avoid crashing out of anger and embarrassment.

Looks like this year could potentially be he hottest summer on record here..will get close to 30c again today and could top out into the mid 30s tomorrow..has been rinse and repeat since mid may..a hot week followed by a warm week before the heat returns..every month May, June, July and August have been 3-3.5c above normal.

Probably the final hot day here of the year, so feeling a bit nostalgic!

A funny summer here. By mid-July, there was a sense it might turn into one of the "greats" - two notable heatwaves had already come, and the forecast seemed set for more. Then one unfortunate trough threw the whole pattern out until the last week or so. This mini-hot spell kind of making up for it. But a sense of "what might have been"!

A lovely, fresh 17C here today. Miles better than the heat of yesterday. Roll on autumn proper!

Yep, gorgeous day down here too and a lovely fresh night to come. Hopefully that's the last heat of the year but I won't crack open the bubbly for a couple of weeks yet.

Disgusting day here for late summer, wet and gloomy with a pathetic maximum temperature of 14C. There have been a number of days similar to this one, this summer. Looking more hopeful for a period of high pressure in early autumn and some indications of a warmer and sunnier than average September to come. Great stuff.

I think maybe we need an Autumn discussion now.

Lovely day today walking around the cheddar gorge. Plenty of sunshine though the lack of strength in it is now noticeable. Looks like a soaker tomorrow.
