Hopefully we will have a repeat of 1976, 1989 or 1995; sunny and warm.  Sunshine has been majorly lacking for the past decade. Failing that, something normal like 1996, 2004 or 2005.

What we will probably get is yet another diabolical summer like 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, or the first half of 2016.

Hopefully a much better June to last year here, which was the dullest on record and wet. Some proper 80's-90's style storms would be very welcome with a lot of warm-hot sunny weather. No strong winds, unnecessary cloud, etc, please! Had a belly full of that crap since 2006.

In the west, yeah.  The only good day that I remember in London was 23rd with the monster thunderstorms overnight, that lasted for hours.

Other than that, it had below average highs, was the cloudiest June on record (beating 2012) and also the 7th or 8th wettest.

Yes, a couple of nice warm days here but then it quickly turned to utter garbage, with decent sunshine not making an appearance until the third week of July :nonono:

Yes June started good last year especially for us Northerners. It was a weekend wonder at the start of June before it all went Pete Tong. Ive noticed heatwaves in the past three years have all been squashed down into single one day wonders (July 19th 2014, July 1st 2015 & July 19th 2017)  Hopefully in June we will see a good splat of HP plonked right on top of us lasting for a week or six.

2017 Europe summer forecast: Heat to dominate the south; Storms to rattle Germany and Poland

It has got to be said some of their forecasts have been way out. Spring 2017 forecast is poor with warmth delayed for our part of the world. We just had one of the warmest Marches on record.

That's a incredibly high bar your setting there for the first 3 summers B87:laugh: A repeat of 1996 would be lovely:smile:

I have no idea what this summer will deliver, the lengthy dry spell will break at some stage, and probably in spectacular fashion, but when who knows, we could be locked into a lengthy dry spell with only shortlived wetter spells.., conversely we could be about to see that abrupt change to sustained wetter weather..

So here's my Summer prediction( for what it's worth:laugh:)

June

To be best of the 3 summer months. 1 outstanding spell of warm and very sunny conditions lasting 5 days + as a ridge pushes north of Ne over the country which will add to a warm and sunny month as a whole. Fears of drought and moorland fires will be at the greatest during this spell in particular. A dry month, very pleasant indeed.

July

A much more typical summer month. By this time the ridges coming from the SW will begin to show a pattern of developing west of Britain as we head through the first half of the month. Whilst there will be pleasant days, when high pressure is closer, there will be much more in the way of cloudier days too. Rainfall will still be a little down by average but closer by the second half of this month. Average temperature, average sunshine.

August

Slightly below par. Nothing particularly untoward but a earlier than usual feeling of Autumn in the air. By this time ridges extending further out west as a pattern making it feel cool at times. Rainfall will become average as troughs drop over the ridge affecting the Uk at times interspersed with better days. Average temperature to feel cooler at times because of windchill and cooler periods. Average sunshine.

Summary

A reasonable summer taken as a whole, better at first with 1 outstanding spell in June. Turning cooler and more unsettled second half but nothing out of the ordinary.

South Europe is expected to be very hot this summer. I wonder if we can get a decent Southern wind in late July we could see a week long of above 30C temperatures similar to 2003, a slack LP stalling out west?? Been very dry this winter/spring so in any heat wave temperatures could be raised a couple of degrees.

Things continuing to fall in place for a decent summer - here are the May GloSea5 predictions for the summer months from the Met Office (2m Temp and 500 hPa height):

The weather in the last  4/5 days as been  pretty good if I may say so.. we have lost that horrendous  north easterly. today was nice and pleasant apart from a shower  at 8am..it cleared to leave  a lovely day..Hopefully  Tuesday and Wednesday will be similar for  a large  chunk of the UK and the rain clears to leave partly sunny skies.

And hopefully we get a lot of summer days this year

Expecting a typical summer here, people cutting their lawns at 7am on a Sunday morning, constant building of extensions on houses with banging and drilling, parties going into the small hours, chavs hanging around drinking on street corners and fights outside pubs.:drunk-emoji:

Typical summer here is... mosquitoes and lots of them..bad driving...horrendous dress sense (plenty of socks and sandals on display) and people hunting moose on the weekends.

That happens here too, apart from hunting moose at the weekend:crazy:
