Time Of Issue: 11.30 Saturday 21st August 2004.

Another deep Atlantic depression is expected to slowly move across the UK over the next few days, bringing further spells of heavy rain follwed by thundery showers.

A band of heavy and persistant rain will move into Southwest England, Wales and Northern Ireland early Sunday with localised heavy and thundery downpours, giving the risk of localised flooding. This area of rain will then slowly move northeastwards during Sunday and Sunday night and during Monday will become slow moving over Scotland for a time, further increasing the risk of flooding in those areas already affected by flooding.

Rainfall amounts may exceed 40mm in parts of Southwest England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In addition, winds will increase for a time with this rain band over Southwestern coasts and hills, with gusts of around 50MPH possible.

Heavy, thundery showers will then follow this rain band with the risk of hail and localised downpours giving flash flooding and appalling driving conditions.

The band of occasionally heavy and persistant rain will continue to move northwards across the UK today (Monday).

Meanwhile, heavy thundery showers are expected to develop widely during today and tomorrow. Some torrential and prolonged downpours are likely, especially in Southwest England and Wales, with totals of around 40mm possible, with some extreme totals of over 70mm, further increasing the risk of flooding in those areas already affected by flooding.
