Nice. You have some lovely scenery there and great unobstructed views. Wish I could say the same!

Got a cell come over about 2pm which dropped heavy rain which turned to hail. That lasted about 10 - 15 minutes before it drifted off to essex and...well, you know/can guess the rest.:wallbash::wallbash::angry:

Wasn’t sure if the on-shore breeze might aid the formation of CZs around your parts?

edit: don’t read that as ‘around your parts’

Haha :-)

Doubt it, there isn’t a wind from another direction to convert with it.

THUNDERSTORM OUTLOOK - DAY 1 (THURSDAY 26TH APRIL)

Synopsis

Broad synoptic troughing extends across the far north Atlantic and much of northern Europe, driving a cyclonic westerly flow across the UK and Ireland. Surface low pressure will be centred close to N Scotland, while a deepening low over the Atlantic moves into the SW approaches tonight. The emphasis for greatest instability and thus risk of thunder will be across northern Britain today, where mid-upper temperatures are coldest.

... SCOTLAND, N. IRELAND and N ENGLAND ...

Steepest lapse rates today will be across northern Scotland in proximity of cold mid-level temperatures of high latitude troughing, 31C drop between 850 and 500mb, decreasing further south. So instability created by surface warming in sunny spells beneath cold upper air will build modest CAPE values of a few 100 j/kg at best across northern UK by peak heating this afternoon, enough for showers already ongoing in the west to develop more widely across the above areas and cumulonimbus to grow deep enough to bring hail, occasional thunder and gusty winds. Risk of thunder will fade after dark, as diurnal heating wanes.

Sea breeze convergence will aid the development of a scattered heavy showers, particularly during the afternoon and early evening. Slow-moving nature of showers poses a risk of local surface water issues. Instability is not particularly impressive, and so lightning may be rather sparse - better conditions are expected over Ireland. Low-level convergence may allow a couple of funnel clouds to develop.

Greatest potential exists over central and western Ireland during the afternoon / early evening - but given a notable lack of shear, lightning activity is unlikely to be widespread enough to warrant a SLGT. Since no marginal threat level currently exists in our system, have reluctantly issued a low-end SLGT to better highlight this potential.

Just ordered a Sony Xperia XZ Premium - 960 FPS @ 720p !!!

Can’t wait to try it in the field (literally!)

I don't mean to put a downer on that, as it is a great phone. However, it's been said that capturing a 'moment' at 960FPS on the Sony is very difficult because you have to manually hit record at the precise time you want a slo-mo.  The Galaxy S9 will start recording before you hit record, as to not miss the thing you're trying to capture. It does this in several ways, one of which is monitoring movement. There's a few videos on YT of people testing the slo-mo on the Sony, and they've taken many attempts to get it right, even when controlling the object they are trying to capture.

Having said that, the XZ2 Premium will be here within a few weeks, that will have 1080p @ 960FPS and they may have done the same thing as Samsung in aiding to capture the moment every time.

How long does it record for?

Have a Nikon J1(?) which does something similar - only 5 seconds of slow motion capture from when you hit record, so while annoying it’s something i’m kind of of used to.

Cheers for the advice though... it has a 30 day guarantee so I can have a play before I make a decision.

IIRC 0.18 seconds. There's two ways (not sure about the second way) you start recording video, and then you hit the slo-mo button each time you want to capture a particular moment. 0.18 seconds equates to around a 6 second video. Recording slo-mo is a very complex thing to add to smartphones, due to many restrictions of sensors and hardware, hence why you don't see many smartphones being able to delve in to the 960FPS or above territory. The Galaxy S9/S9+ went one step further by adding in a chip specifically for the camera, so it can cope with all of the processing. I'm certainly looking forward to what can be done in that department over the next few years!

So , when's the next event likely to be so I can expect another bout of disappointment? Wondering if this weekends upcoming warmth could produce some pulse storms?
