A friend in Banbury just sent me a message to say the thunder and lightning are quite impressive. I work in Buckingham and a colleague can see distant lightning.

Doesn't look promising for Northern England now which is typical : P

Nope! Convective weather removed us from the moderate risk. Surprised metoffice haven’t cancelled the warning yet and applied one to the south coast.

This is why I wish we had regional convective threads. Reading all this is really difficult to bear.

Must be like a strobe disco in the channel now

And a cruise has just left Dover, guess they'll get the best view.

Just been standing looking to the WSW - given clear skies here was surprised not to see even a distant flicker.

Activity on Blitzortung appears to be increasing sporadic. This marries well with the MUCAPE modelled earlier today. Seems that where storms are racing ahead of the proper plume electricity starts to wain quite quickly.

Number of the cells in the channel seem to be heading this way but also some have started switching off.

If any cells pass through in the early hours here we should get some sparks. Much earlier it’s likely to be non-electric.

Some of the regional threads are very inactive through most of the season and I think if you make extra regional specific threads on just convection it'd only make that worse, best to stick to the this thread for insight and then post in here and your regional when you get some action, that may help activity in your specific regional thread, although I agree it can be frustrating coming into a big thread where someone has a huge storm when there's nothing at all at your location.

Insane light show up on Butser!!!! Lightning all round forks anvil crawlers and anvil flashes

Its gonna be BIG!

I'm not far from Butser, the lightning intensity and frequency is crazy. I'm also seeing more frequent flashes beginning to my south east towards West Sussex way.
