I think I'll name summer 2017 as the summer of severe downpours. Just had one (albeit with no thunder) that rivalled 25th June, 2016 in terms of long, intense rainfall. Roads and gardens flooded and unfortunately still lots more heavy rain to come. Oh well, I did wish for more rain...

Certainly feels like a decent summer for Norwich with many thunder days (lost count) compared with previous years.

This year has definitely been eventful. Ok not all of them have been a real show but even being mainly static and not chasing I should think it's coming to double figures if not that already for thunder days. I know of a couple of years were very quiet but I do also remember a year that didn't give me a lot of time to do other things before I had to drop it and chase storms again.

I think this area does pretty well for storms in general and at least we do get thunder days here and I'm sure there's people out there that would be more than happy to get the thunder days that we have had or at least a storm with a couple of rumbles in it. I don't think a year has gone past that I wouldnt at least have heard thunder.

Been a dreadful year here just one day with a thundery shower and that's it. Considering it's been a warm wet summer so far it's surprising that the high rainfall totals aren't related to storms.

Hi everyone!

Arrived home from a very relaxing (and hot!) two weeks in Crete about 24 hours ago. The weather here couldn't be more different! Mid/high teens and raining all day.

On approach into Gatwick yesterday, I snapped a photo from the plane on my phone of an anvil that seemed to have produced some lightning over SE Kent:

And as a matter of interest, I'll also include another anvil spotted over mainland Greece. My plane was cruising at FL360 at this point, and the cloud top was level with it!

Anyone in Kent see any lightning 22 miles across the channel? Seems to be a Kent clipper travelling in the exact opposite direction

Might be the french storms, considering the direction, but i could be wrong! its very weirdly-shaped, almost like it's been cut in half.

That Calais storm is still going strong, even though it has left France!
