Just chased a mental little storm, from just east of market deeping to just south of holbeach in Lincolnshire. Had to pull over as the rain was that heavy at one point

Possible supercell heading towards Norwich. Certainly a comma shape to it, and it was severe enough earlier on when I chased it. Did not like the hail hammering down on my new Audi A5

It's to my north, and I have a good view of it from our north-facing French windows.  It seems to be all high-based, IC strikes with plenty of scud and turbulence.  Heavy ppn, just to my north.  I'm now seeing the back edge, and there does appear to be some rotation.

EDIT - there is some scud rotating at the base of the storm directly to my north.  It's being back-lit by the setting sun as well which makes it appear more dramatic.  As I've now been typing, that rotation appears to have stopped.  It appears to be weakening a touch on radar as well.

Urgh i hate that retarded term 'mini-tornado'.....

It really annoys me when I see that, along with "what appeared to be a tornado". There's no such thing. Either there's a tornado or there isn't. It's typical of the uk media, who know absolutely nothing about severe weather and completely refuse to believe we get tornado's in the uk (even though we usually get quite a few each year, well into double figures, although many are undocumented as they are in remote areas where they go unseen).

As for today, I've had cell after cell pass overhead with moderate rain coming from each in between short bursts of sunshine, but no sparks sadly.

Bet it looked impressive! Wish I had chased it on, although I was surprised at how quickly it raced on towards Kings Lynn. Being rush hour, it would've been hard to keep up with the thing.

It's pretty dramatic, and, as I was typing the post you quoted, I thought it was going to produce a funnel cloud, but it never really got going.

Have had a recent downpour just north of Haverhill Suffolk. The heaviest precipitation was towards Linton Cambridgeshire.

Some rotation going on with this heavy downpour but sadly no tube today.

Absolutely 100 percent rotation there, as evidenced by your top two panoramic pics. Great shots.

Thanks Windblade.

I could see the whole storm rotating, it was quite a sight. Normally I have to travel/chase miles to see something less impressive, so from my back garden was a right result! I was hoping for a funnel cloud but no such luck. Impressive cloud structures and turbulence  nonetheless.

Constant thunder just off the coast at Spurn now. The odd flicker of lightning seen followed by some deep booms. Must have missed us by at least 1-2 miles. Got some threatening clouds approaching from the west so hopefully a direct hit is imminent

Thanks for the comment sadly a few rumbles and then a monsoon for 10 minutes was all it yielded.  Ah well :pardon:

Haven't seen rain like that for a long time, 15mm in less than 15 mins, very localised (haven't seen my sheep run for cover that fast!); roads here flooded but bone dry at Kimberley a couple of miles away. Not a huge amount of electrical activity but loud thunder nonetheless.

Interesting storm that tracked across Norfolk this evening.  No rain in Swardeston south of Norwich but some great cloud formations and plenty of rotation.  Really thought this would give us a funnel cloud, but not to be.  Still, a good storm to watch as it passed over to the north of us.

Well I think that's my lot for tonight's activity unless something materialises later on. Distinctively cooler now though. Tried to capture the last few bits of cloudscape in the failing light. There's a cloud trying to bubble up as it heads out to sea but that's about it.

Just when I thought it was over, I decided to chase back into Lincolnshire to intercept the cells now crossing into N Norfolk. Saw a few lightning strikes in the CB, biblical rain and this impressive shelf cloud!!
