Yes it looks very interesting. Ive seen The tops of storms while over the south coast before in my position in south London. This is keeping me awake!

Finally seeing a few crawlers to the SE of here - and they're a brilliant shade of orange :good:

The MCS looks epic on radar - wow! Hoping i'll see a little more with round 2, but even those don't seem on course.

Is a MCV (Mesoscale Convective Vortex) - look at the swirl or circulation!

I'm on the southern tip of the Ile of Wight - Comletely manic outside with gusty winds and the sky alight.

Torrential downpours and frequent lightning here again near to Kingsbridge and Salcombe. I'd imagine some of the back roads round here will be horrendous to drive on with all that run-off.

Amazing light show as well, it's been a long old while since we've had anything like this today! Keeping my fingers crossed for people elsewhere!

It's orientation makes you think that but if you run the loop it's all moving pretty much  due N, maybe a fraction NNE

Correct, current SIGMET says moving North at 15knots (so 17mph in a 360* direction or so) from present position.

Are the storms not elevated? If they are then sea temps make no difference. :)

And - just dropped in as a newbie.

I'm in Surrey 10 minutes north of Gatwick waiting for...anything. I've been in a lightning free zone for what feels like years.  So, hello all. Now...waiting for the action to reach me and if it does, I'll yell.

Thanks for all the reports so far!

At this rate I may need to go to bed for a few hours and set an alarm for 2am. My luck though the trough will speed up and nip through by 1:30

Evening all, hope everyone is well - great to be a part of the forum on nights like this!

Fantastic to see so many strikes across the South Coast and north east of London.

A noticeable breeze here this evening when I popped out for a smoke earlier.

Not confident we'll see something here in the early hours or tomorrow afternoon but great to see reports and pictures of storms nonetheless!

Good luck everyone!

Chris

I can see some distant flickers from those storms near Bournemouth....clear skies here so good viewing conditions (strikes are 50-60 miles away)

The MCV is promising as it's heading NEwards whilst there's some convection over mid-Wales that's heading NWwards. The splitting air in-between the Midlands can only help with convective potential as the density thins allowing for higher updraught rates.

I got the NW app now on my phone, thanks to the person who replied, I think you were right sadly tho with it moving east, last few updates has it moving NE instead of N.  Leics I think remains dry and hot tonight :(

Same here, it was looking promising until it reached peterborough, unless it suddenly edges North again as it circles round but I doubt it :/
