The bulge in the storm over France seems to be rotating - anything we can read in to that?

It's holding the storms together.

Closest strike yet, according to lightningmaps it was less than a mile away.

It's the spin up time of the convective physics, as @staplehurst was saying previously, it's very common with mesoscale models (Euro4 is very similar for example), so always best to use the previous run for the 6-12 or so hours after the run time.

We have doubled the amount of times it calls the microphysics since, so the spin-up is much shorter than it was, and as you can see it has the convective stuff looking more realistic by midnight.

In terms of the model accuracy, it's actually verifying really well currently, and showed marked improvements during the last convective spell, after we'd increased the calls to physics.

Lucky you. Hot humid , sticky , grey and eerily quiet and still. On net weather looks as though the rain is moving north west away from me .

Interesting for me is this part of the ESTOFEX discussion...A confined swath of severe to isolated damaging wind gusts is possible affecting the CNTRL-/E-English Channel and surrounding areas during the following hours!

Probably the out flow from the storm while in the channel. Think the one on the 31st of may had winds of about 85 MPH on it's leading edge.

Turning dark to the south here now as well, some unusual cloud shapes too but I think the centre of this storm is passing Bournemouth, may get a strike or two :)

Hot off the press from the family, RNAS Culdrose helicopter has been dispatched to Coverack, the caravan made it out of the flood okay but the force of the water moved a car-wheel from 3-other caravans away right under it. Sirens are blaring all the time and they had to use buckets for a short while as the hail was so intense it blocked them closing the skylight fully.

Think I might hop in the car and head towards Ringwood at this rate. Picket Post would probably be a good vantage point.

It's not very intense and moving very slowly but seems to be gradually reaching the new forest.

Seems to be heading towards you and away from Bournemouth now.
