looks like the stuff in the channel is fizzling out and I can't really see where anything else is going to come from...unless things start to develop later into the night.

IMO for those in SC/ SE ...it's going to be yet another let down....perhaps the channel isn't warm enough to aid with convection ??

Late August is usually the best time for storms coming out plumes in my experi3nce

12z AROME shows a lot of the current PPN fizzling out overnight with anything that does remain affecting predominately the home counties area;

Storms are/were rooted above the boundary layer so temperature of the channel wouldn't affect them.

There is some as-of-yet unknown reason why storms avoid central southern counties like the plague. Even when it's nailed-on it won't happen. It's weird.

Very sultry feeling to the atmosphere even though there has been a breeze. Blue skies disappearing to be replaced by this. What's our chances for something tonight and tomorrow everyone?

Does anyone know if Scotland will get anything tomorrow or will it die off before anything gets here?

Just heard thunder. Probably came from those strikes near the IOW.

My favorite scenario is being under the mcs canopy, with lightning jumping between cells. Have to go back to 92/95 for that round here!

Samos

Had it the 31st may before the main storm came over.

Cloudy and boring here

expecting only rain...and with a miracle...a few distant rumbles of thunder.

had looked very promising this morning.

unless I'm reading things wrong

looking forward to the next let down from mother nature

Not heard back from the family caravan at Little Trevothan for the past half-hour, phone-signal is probably down or they're making plans what to do next.

All this nonsense about the French storm is a waste of time! If you look at the rain radar and read the strike map properly you'll see it's a diagonal band of storm cells moving north and slowly dying off from the western side.

The rain swathe is also headed north but with a swirly-whirly style which is also making the strike map appear to show storm motion favouring an eastward track.

Reading what I have I expect this French Guff rubbish to die-off over the next hour and new storms to intensify in their place to marry-up with the sun going down.

Who wants lame day-time storms when you can wait a bit and have a night-time spectacle!?

Sounds about right to me!

Same here, is that it for today? I was under the impression that the main event wouldn't be until around 11pm.

Looks like Bournemouth might get a few strikes now it seems to be suggesting a few just out to the channel on the West and IOW to the East.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
