Expect CET to rise gradually to about 18.5 by middle of next week then back down into high 17 range by near end of the month as per 12z GFS. Saturday 15th could see means near 20.5 then 19 or 20 each day to about Wed 20th. After that more like 16 or 17 most days, a few near 18. Last day of course unreliable but it does show a below normal outcome for the 29th (gasp). Probably won't happen though.

The 'high 17 range' will do me fine, Roger...I guessed at 17.7!:D

Yup an odd month bar one very hot day and one cold day it's been very reasonable yet it's going to be a very warm month. Last month if you took the three hot days out for here day time temps would have been close to normal perhaps below while night time well above.

here in Edmonton July is running at 20.5c which +4.5 c above normal..this will fall as today is cold and windy after touching 90f on Saturday...looking a little more summer like in the next 10 days with less heat but still pretty decent 22-27c range.

Mmm an odd month so far, the high CET value masking the fact maxes have not been exceedingly high, more down to high min values, indeed Wednesday might just deliver 30 degrees in places, but mid-high 20's then values look like going back to average, even a bit below -but no doubt mins will hold up to help prop up the CET mean. In summer its the maxes you notice more than the mins, some very warm summer months have delivered very high maxes but also average even cool min values, the warmth so far this month and in June has come courtesy of ridges from the azores high with high dewpoint levels and humidity levels helping to bring high mins, yet supressing maxes a little, classic summer warmth with high pressure directly overhead usually brings lower dewpoints and humidity levels and therefore cooler mins.

Here in Cumbria we are around average mean wise, below average maxes, above average mins - its not turning into a particularly noteworthy July in this respect, indeed the second half of this week is looking distinctly cool, maxes of 17-18 degrees very poor indeed for the warmest core period of the year.

Is there any way we can compare day time average and night time average to see where the driver for above average temps lie because it certainly doesn't feel like its day time temps?

You can view CET statistics for maxima here
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_info_max.html

and minima here
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_info_min.html

Daily data are available at the bottom of the page.

Looks like both maxima and minima are contributing equally to the overall CET.

No change sunny Sheffield still at 16.8C.

Latest GFS suggesting this will be close to the final figure.
