Feels like it has been 17.1c for weeks! Personally I think the CET paints a better picture for this month than the reality. It's been mostly cloudy and cool to average. The warmish start has prevented an average to slightly below average CET.

Yes we have held up remarkably well. Think the night temps have been the main factor here, 12, 13, 14c mins widely in spite of the cooler day temps and rainy days.

Will be good to compare average maxes against average mins, I suspect the average max in the CET zone will end up very close to the 61-90 average even, but mins appreciably above.

Another month with a marked north-south divide as well. For the north despite some brief heat in second week, its been preety cool/average temp wise, and notably wet and cloudy, the last 10 days have been preety poor - not as bad as July 2015 mind.

My own guess will for once be too high this year, makes a change.

wonder where they get their figures from

Met Check in the help and info towards the bottom of the page 'It takes into account 5 stations which are geographically spread around the UK' where they are.... your guess is as good as mine.

Surely when Hadley let us know, it'll change :)

As we await the Hadley verdict on July, noting that estimated value stood at 17.06 on 30th, suggests final to be revised from 17.0, so most likely to finish 16.7 to 17.1 (16.9 my guess on it).

From the table of entries, our median was 17.2, the two recent normals being scored are 16.7.

These forecasts will be likely to score best:

17.1 _______ CONGLETON HEAT, DON (+1d)

17.0 _______ HAMMER, DANCERWITHWINGS

16.9 _______ BORN FROM THE VOID, REEF, RADIATING DENDRITE, MIDLANDS ICE AGE, CARL46WREXHAM

16.8 _______ WEATHER26, DANIEL*, SIMSHADY, GODBER.1 (+1d)

16.7 _ 1981-2010*_ VIRTUALSPHERE, GAEL_FORCE

The only 16.9 person who needs a speech is Born From the Void, I list them in order of entries, the same way J10 scores them. So if 16.9 wins, the first entry is high score. If 17.0 wins, then it's Hammer, and if it's 16.8, it would be Weather 26.

Confirmed as 16.8C, 0.1C above the 1981-2010 average:

http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cetml1659on.dat

August only needs to be 16.4C (equal to the 1981-2010 average) for this to be the warmest summer since 2006.

Just 0.3C out for July and at 17.1C, the first time this year I have guessed too high!

16.8c was my guess, would have been ok if it wasn't a day late.
