The sky here in London is looking more unstable than it has all week. Sod's law would have it in heading to Yorkshire today. Hopefully tomorrow will be good though.

I've been made photographer at my own mums wedding so I may be torn between wedding and storm pics if anything does happen. :help:

Radar shows rain over my location but not a drop at all yet, another cell to my south starting up between Lynn and Fakenham?

Still not a drop from the shower over my head, i think the only place actually getting rain is under the main part of the cells

Most of it probably being evaporated. "Dry Thunderstorm"

Think this mid-level cloud is gonna hold back temps over woking area and possibly limit potential

I was just thinking that. It's murky here. The skies look drizzly rather than convective and it's quite dull. That said I'm making the most of the relatively cool temperature!

Yes very encouraging mid level instability this morning with plenty of virga and altcas.

Must be somewhat localised not a cloud in the sky here; beautiful blue skies and not a breath of wind... and it's feeling fairly hot already!

More cloud than we've seen in recent days in the east

Doh - forgot to multi quote!.... Seems it could be quite localised  (as some clouds in warminster and bournemouth too and they're not too far from me) but for me not a cloud in the sky here; beautiful blue skies and not a breath of wind... and it's feeling fairly hot already!

The cloud is looking to slowly move off to the eastern coast, aplowing western, south - westerm and maybe central england to become hot and sunny by around 11am. The surface heating during the day may ignite some beastly looking Thuderstorms. I thinl the whole eastern UK is out of the equation completely as there it alot of cloud cover although, this hints towards instability, which was proven this morning by the small short lived cell that managed ignite.

It is more instable than past days by far, but is the cap finally going to break today. We will have to wait and see.

it was forecasted, and is likely to suppress the temperatures by up to 10C along or near the east coast

I'm very happy to have the cloud keeping temperatures down, just sad about the nearly non existing risk of storms later

No real improvement until at least the end of the week sadly. Wouldn't mind it if there was a chance of storms, but down here? Fat chance.

Large drops of rain falling now, went outside and it feels great just wish it was less humid because it feels a bit sticky still, feels closer to 24c or higher

Take back my last comment, just got chilly very suddenly and the rain turned from light to moderate, drops quite big looked a bit like hail for a second!

It was cool(ish) earlier in woking with a nice breeze. Some very interested elevated cloud though, dark and menacing but still not quite convective-looking enough.

Left the van at woking so I can drop my the office in Chobham later on. I'm hoping to be free by 4 so if something is brewing within a 50 mile zone to the west I'll take a punt and head over that way.

Is there a chance any storms in the west would travel eastwards and maintain their strength to reach London?

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
