thats quite impressive, maybe you caught a glimpse of the flashes from the strikes that hit just a few hundred metres away from me.. pretty insane thinking about that, hey!

close CG strike taken on my mobile phone about ten minutes ago, my first ever picture/video/anything of lightning and I'm pretty chuffed, got the flash, bolt and then a few seconds later the crack and rumble! video-1499381076.mp4

my favourite part of the thunderstorm was probably the fact it was night time and the build up was so intense as the lightning was seen from so far away, loved how the whole sky went deep orange as the core came through with extreme rain

Well, having had no storms yesterday and only a couple of brief showers in the late morning, I really hope we do at the very least get some good spells of rain this weekend. Things are starting to dry up here.

Looking at today down there, I'd say you're in for a shout. Upper shortwave looks to be crossing over Iberia today, could be some monsters over central and eastern Spain. Wish you all the best!

Well I got a good short clip of the ONE forked lightning I managed to see when not driving. It was from the cell over Herts as it passed across into Essex, but it basically stopped in its tracks the moment it saw that I was watching.

I can only imagine the possible pictures I'd have if I could get actually get near to an actual storm cell!

Anyway here is my pic:

It's amazing how far away u can see these storms. I've seen an electrified CB on the south coast and thunderstorms in the North Sea from here, at night.

And there's this view of a section of the Herts cell as it was reaching maturity - was under the anvil at this point but there was no rain for about 20 mins

That was the same view I had - quite impressive. Unfortunately its battery ran out before It reached me and only ended up with one flash and some reasonable thunder. Bit disappointing really, and would be interesting to try and determine exactly why it suddenly died, particularly as it was looking pretty good on radar at one stage.

I'm a bit confused:

today it is muggy in the south with high temps and an approaching front from the north - so why is there no chance of even small convective showers*?

* Based on general forecasts saying it will be dry and become fresher

They are awfully shy aren't they? I've not even had an rsvp back for Manchester yet.  Recently one cell had its back to me when I was in East strategically-planned mini-holiday Sussex as per fig 1:
