Keep an eye on the northern France cells though, as the met office stated that it was continental fed storms. Hopefully we can get some nice imports. That's just my little prediction of where the best sferics would be. I think these are just lunchtime rain with thunder showers. The main risk is later on at 4pm onwards as that's the met offices weather warning start time.

I agree with this, but I personally think if we get any imports they will be late evening. Happy to be proved wrong though!

How about us here in Lincoln? Seeing as we're just in the warning area

Moderate rain atm, can hear the odd rumble from the strikes further into Suffolk. Got soaked trying to finish topping a field, can't believe I'm having hot chocolate in June!

Well it is hard to say, but it depends how far northwards they reach before dispersing, but you may be lucky.

It's a good sign if there's sferics before the warning time, but yes you probably are correct, but anything special would be 4pm onwards into late evening night time.

Strong rumbles in Longstanton, Cambs. Not far from the very active cells moving through East Anglia.

Very angry looking skies too... could be an interesting day. Looking good

Will Warminster in Wiltshire get a thunderstorm because it feels humid here

As somebody said earlier, you might be too far west. You certainly are at the moment. There's possibly a small chance later this evening.

Is this what I think it is (over Essex on N-W radar)?

I was also thinking what you were thinking... maybe someone can clarify? Interesting activity indeed

We're probably too far west for any sferics, but blimey you can literally feel the warm, humid air being drawn up. Skies just look greay and murky..not especially unstable, but I have a stormy headache which is usually as good as guide to storms as any forecast!!

Seems similar in form to this one:

Unlikely to be a hook because of a mesocyclone in that storm (that can produce tornadoes) - as storms are elevated today and also deep layer shear is fairly weak and unsupportive of rotating storms.

Cheers Nick - I'm not surprised given the storm forecast on the site, where you discussed the inversion.  I just wondered what you thought might be causing that interesting signal - you can see I think why an idiot like me might have wondered!

May look similar on radar, but that's where any similarity ends, very unlikely to be a mesocyclone, shear too weak, CAPE in the mid-levels and storms too elevated today.

Thanks Nick - I posted that just prior to your first reply.  Should I delete that post?

Think it's just co-incidence more than anything more sinister :)

Been dry and overcast here all day so far. Must say it doesn't feel stormy at all, but we shall see

I'm just west of the main line of storms but getting pelted with sudden downpours of rain and hearing constant rumbles on and off. Definitely the most interesting day of the year so far for me! Looking great for this afternoon.... fingers crossed. As Nick said the set up isn't great for anything too severe (according to the charts) but certainly looking good for some decent thunder and lightning... and flooding rain
