Long time no posting, good to see some of the ol skool still here!

Anyway over the past 30 mins or so lower level cloud has been moving in a northerly direction, as the high level cloud been heading north east; Could this be the start of a CV Setting up?

Pic was took about 15 mins ago.

Took some time to appear but I believe this is the trough now starting to form with vertical placement of the cells and more of a easterly movement in them. Wind-vectors shows a convergence taking place over Cheshire into Mersyside aswell which is indicative of it. Going to be watching this over the next hour and see what happens further north and south.

That finger of preciptation running from Cumbria back towards Dublin must be some kind of trough.

It's really trying soooooo hard but failing to deliver. There has been plenty of Ac Cas and a cell tried to form but just left a heavy shower. I'm so keeping fingers crossed. What's the more experienced weather bods think of this sky round here for potential?

One more light shower to come then a dry night to come. Going to be a bit warm though to get a kip.

It's beginning to look like it, it's such an elusive feature for now that until convective initiation along the line begins will it become more evident.

Not that warm here: pleasant and still so should get a good night's sleep. Last night was fine too. Diddly squat here so far and not holding my breath....

Not enough decent forcing by the looks of things.  The convective rain drops here were amazing. So much potential and no trigger

I can see that cloud to my north west from Tamworth so looking towards your location. I said to my wife thats showing the instability around. She disappointed that we are not currently looking at cooling storms!

What I'm thinking is, that band of showers (south east ireland ~ cumbria) is going to ignite once that trigger currently over southern scotland pushes further south! And we are going to get a conveyer belt of storms, torrential precipitation pushing further south on the radar, but locally feeding in from the south west if ya know what I mean. Just wait n see!!   If it's like this over scotland with their  pitiful energy available, just and wait and see what happens to us!!

A funny day with cloud here today. A bit of Altocumulus passed over quickly around midday, then some little clouds of cumulus at tea time and now a big dark cloud and a lot of cirrus to the north east with a bit of virga. A sign of things to come?

Isn't it annoying when good storms appear in areas where they aren't supposed to?

Thought I'd share this with you. I took some steaks out of the freezer about 10-15 mins ago. Just popped back in the kitchen and there is a thick frost on them (they were crystal clear when I took them out). That just gives a wee idea of how insanely humid it has become. Saying there's some moisture in the air is like saying molten lava is tepid.

In echo of AJ's post earlier, my frosty steaks should reassure enough that the atmosphere is primed and ready for action

To be fair MetO have the borders up to Edinburgh under a warning so not that surprising.  I am just waiting on some form of trigger!
