Still no lightning across the british isles for over an hour.

Isolated pockets of very heavy rain to the east of Preston and North of Sheffield look the most likely candidates to turn into storms right now.

loooooooooooooonggggg time lurker, first time poster. I love the running commentary on these forums. just been out playing footy with my lad and I can't quite believe how oppressive it is out there. The heat has built so much since 4 pm (in Hinckley) and looking to the skies I think I see the first signs of convection poking through the muck and the white clouds are darkening more every time I look to the skies. I reckon 8 pm onwards will be kick off time if it's going to happen at all.

love this place by the way! hope to become a regular (treat me gently though as I am no expert) ....yet!

Welcome fellow Leicestershirearian.. on a knife edge with regards yes/no (Thunderstorms) very, very humid, still, stagnant air, need a storm to bring the "PETRICORE" [Apologies if I have misspelled it]

Well I'm pretty satisfied with that storm I just had. Here's a video of it if you can be bothered watching for 10 minutes. Sorry about the voices

Got a nice view of the cell over Halifax. Doesn't look too robust but it's a start

look at how the sferics over scotland seem to be continually pushing further and further south, I wonder how far south this trend will go??

Look at the radar loop, its almost as if any major developents will appear on the southern flank of this area of rain/instability

Looking at the radar there appears to be a line of precipitation emerging from the Isle of Man to the SE of Ireland, looks as though this could be our trough to set off the storms?

Just took a quick casual glance out the window, skies looking pretty unstable here too. Little bit of cumulus off to the SW but shouldn't think it will come to anything tonight. All eyes on mid/late tomorrow morning for here...

Yup but that isn't too surprising because CAPE values are much lower there. The trough needs to get a move on though! (if that is the trough...)

Funny how I've constantly being looking west at all the data yet, it seems to be initiating from the north!

I can see that but not sure it's going to make it this far down.  Nice to see some strikes showing though so who knows I haven't a clue right now!

Took some time to appear but I believe this is the trough now starting to form with vertical placement of the cells and more of a easterly movement in them. Wind-vectors shows a convergence taking place over Cheshire into Mersyside aswell which is indicative of it. Going to be watching this over the next hour and see what happens further north and south.
