Cold fronts sometimes produces isolated thunderstorms at the front of it during hot weather.

Commonly, when the cold front is passing, winds become gusty; there is a sudden drop in temperature, and heavy rain, sometimes with hail, thunder, and lightning. Lifted warm air ahead of the front produces cumulus or cumulonimbus clouds and thunderstorms.12 Aug 2009 - google.

I still think we gonna expect some sort of bang.

Is that the trough developing between Ireland and IoM?  Only asking as the convective cloud appears to thin out and a clear sector can be seen.  Interesting to look at either way.

cold front moving slower then forecast so a lot of time still

We don't want it too slow though as it won't interact with the available convective energy - it'll have cleared east into the North Sea.

Latest BBC weather forecast had only an isolated area of storms this evening between Hull and Whitby although the forecaster did say they could be vicous. I suppose this all depends on whether the trough and cold front make it across to these regions in time.

It is weird as even though the sky looks gloomy and fearing nothing will happen, it also feels so still and eerie like it's just waiting to go bang. Don't know if that's my wishful thinking though lol

Do I go to the east or west coast of the island for photos?

Nice stuff moving out of Ireland, to the west, but big towers going up towards the east!?

I'd avoid TV forecasts now as they are often based on outdated data. Stay on the forums, radars, satellite pics, etc etc. That way you get a real-time (or as good as) view on the conditions.

Oh, and don't forget to look out the window!

Take a look at what just went through Edinburgh and how quickly it developed.  A sign of things further south?

Keeping track from afar, this looks an incredible setup for night-time storms, wish I was there!

It would be interesting to know where exactly the trough and cold fronts are at this point, it's pretty hard to tell from the rainfall radar at the moment!

Let's hope so! Worth noting the conditions are better for storm development up there as conditions aren't being inhibited nearly as much.

Given we have even more energy to tap into down here, we could really do with the approaching trough soon! :)

Looking out for a more vertical line of precip breaking out on the radar as so-far everything has been more orientated horizontally, this will be indicative of the elusive trough.

Yes, nothing stands out much on the radar

Lovely golden (more than how it looks in the photo) sunset here in Crossgates. Teasing grey clouds keep passing by too.
