Well, it's currently 21C here and that band of cloud and rain has just about passed over. The sun has peaked out but we have rain falling. Dew point is 18C.

Any storm-base heights today will be at 3000ft, I can already see the rain-shaft precip falling from the Manchester shower.

I think it's gonna be a dud for the NE there's just too much cloud cover.  Happy to be corrected however!

It is hit and miss here - it's not thick cloud cover mind but I think it's going to be enough to scupper the chances later.  We'll see though.

Went out for a pub lunch and it is really oppressive out there. Safely back in the AC haven of the office.

No, afraid not. Jealous of your sea breeze though.

At least your office has AC - I am in a large building designed with the lovely glass ceilings so essentially 3000 staff, with computers, inside a giant greenhouse. Grim. Our mercury thermometer says it is 35 degrees in here.

But I feel more sorry for those working outside in the sun!!

It also makes me sick I won't be seeing any storms to wave the heat goodbye. :(

6z update for West Midlands ...

sound-WestMidlands-12.thumb.png.e1afd119f45afd9d845566ba7108c6cb.png

Scattered thunderstorms are likely in a moderately convective environment (K = 34) Of those that form, it's highly likely that many of them will form severe characteristics (TT = 55, LI= -11) such as large hail and frequent lightning (CAPE = 3,944 J/kg) Cells that form may exhibit excessive precipitation (PW = 3.77) Convection is unlikely to get going full speed until later this afternoon, early evening, at approximately 6pm (CIN c.242 J/kg) although local orography may well kick of initiation before that. When convection does get going it may well form storms very rapidly indeed (LI = -11) Tornado development seems to be on the edge of likely/unlikely, and will almost certainly be a wait a see, although supercells are not ruled out given the rather remarkable convection parameters GFS has thrown out this morning.

Happy Hunting (and take care) !!

The lunchtime sounding from Nottingham will be interesting. Impatiently awaiting its appearance.

Wyoming has had a problem with the Herstmonceaux one the last few days - is there another source/link that's more reliable? I think UoW lost their disk drive ...

Is there anywhere where we can find legit, measured soundings for free? I know you can get GFS modelled ones everywhere, but if GFS is overblowing the CAPE, the calculated soundings will have the same issue.

Great to see, also starting to see some patchy Altocumulus here in the West Midlands so things looking up.
