Sky is going black to my west and on the radar showing a potent shower en route - the north Pennines are doing their job well!

Can someone answer this - as storms have broken out widely across this region, does it bode better for this afternoon for storms or is it unrelated?

My bets are on Lincoln for later, looks prime to me.

Also feel North Wales/Liverpool/Manchester could see something spectacular.

Id love to agree but here in Merseyside, conditions are not really conducive to storms at this moment (cloudy, chilly fresh)

If these incoming storms leave cirrus in their wake it doesn't bode well as surface heating will be compromised, but I live in hope as the storms earlier cleared to unbroken sunshine.

Thanks NL and yes sun was burning before.  Another one on its way over, it's gone really dark here in Washington.

Lightning detected in the cells moving east across the North Pennine's  - gone very oppressive here - to be fair I want them over so the heat of the day can do its job.

Overcast here aswell but that's to be expected, so far everything is going to plan and i'm looking out for temps 33'c-35'c in the SW to trigger initiation further northwards as all that warmth and humidity gets carried north. It'll start to feel really oppressive and uncomfortable by the time it's 4pm and then comes the first sparks.

Could lincoln see a repeat of July 2015 tonight? Or are these storms likely to be in daylight?

Ooh I hope so, was out for almost 5hrs from midnight, only had to drive about a mile to a good location! However I think if anything we'll just have to enjoy everyone else's reports (Lincs notwithstanding - good chance there). However if I hear one more "the south and east get all the storms" comment I will indeed shoot the messenger...

Just had a play around with some Euro4 soundings across northern England (specifically Manchester). Not done these before so cannot at all verify their accuracy. However, they throw out some pretty impressive severe parameters including 0-3km helicity in excess of 300m^2/s^2. That is impressive and certainly conducive to severe storms.

Showery muck over me right now in C Scotland, not sure if this is gonna affect my chances later today. Not sure I'll see much anyway but I'm under the level 1 ESTOFEX warning so we'll see!

Large drops of rain here in Walsall now from that small shower in the Midlands.
