Heavy snow here now but what is on the ground is already melting. Temperatures and dewpoints are rising.

Yep going to need altitude ...again.

We had planned to visit Manchester today - BBC app has heavy snow from 5pm through to 8 ish this evening. Any folk have a view on potential driving conditions M61/M6 at that time?

I can see the hills east of me getting a nice cover later. The 6z gfs has the streamers going till midnight.

It has tomorrow's band marginally south but not a major shift

Sat24 is giving a maximum of 3.8c for Manchester so quite a rise from what was expected just yesterday. Once again that's the price we have to pay for the warmer sea.

Is it game back on then after earlier this morning?

Wonder if I’m safe enough yet to tell the kids we might be building snowmen tomorrow!

Should be OK, but you can check the road cameras later eg http://trafficcameras.uk/roads/ - shows possibly a dusting on the edges of the carriageway on parts of M61 so care required obviously.

Thanks - you'd think no cause for concern atm - I'm looking at the sunshine on the grass here on the Fylde Coast now!

Increasingly confident we will see some snow showers today, already the clouds have been developing overhead and the wind is shifting more and more to the WNW, becoming westerly - also the SW coast of Cumbria has seen some shower activity, and more importantly showers are penetrating into Galloway, a sure sign wind direction has changed, and these would align down through the Lake District. Fingers crossed!
