This winter's garden path is being laid early folks... Well I scoff but it would be jackpot time if some of the long range forecasts bear fruit... potent northerlies and an heavyweight beasterly all before November bows out.

Yes of course it will be watered down to a mere glancing blow, but I have a feeling we might just be a little below average in terms of temperatures for this month.  That's all I'm betting on for now...and a small stake at that.

I really like the Met Office long range outlook. It's time to take notice when they are on board, as of now things are looking good. I remember the phantom proper cold spells of the last few years which never materialised and they never went on board with it. To say below average temps as they currently do is quite significant.

The wind has veered off-shore since midnight so the temperature has quickly fallen away. Currently  1.9°C, about to break the record for the coldest night of the autumn so far. The grass temp is -0.8°C, so the second ground frost of the autumn so far as well.

Anyone wanting to see Snow this weekend may want to take a trip into the hills of the Region.GFS12z showing some Snow Showers Sunday Morning.

Not expecting anything here but if we do its not a bad start to the extended winter period although I can remember a winter of about four years ago when we had a couple of inches of early morning snow in mid November and next to nothing for the rest of the winter.

we'll see though and I have a hunch that winter 2017-18 will be a bit more seasonal than the last few.

Pennines and  eastern lakes above 300 metres is looking plausible.

We'll see.

lovely day here now though after a damp start.

a couple of quick inside jobs to do and then an afternoon doing a bit of tidying up in the garden by the looks of it.
