This wind orientation perfectly shows Manchester's rain shadow. Only light rain here so far while I can see areas around me having heavier bursts. Hopefully when the squal line comes I will get it heavy otherwise I will still need to water the plants tomorrow.

Same here. 10mm in 24h, enough to avoid watering, but hardly a deluge.

That's what I ended up with, 10 mm, but I thought that felt like quite a lot.

Oh dear start of the school holidays for most, and the start of the 'high season' here in the Lake District and we awake to a generally unsettled quite poor outlook for the foreseeable, weak ridges interspersed by slow moving showery/wet cyclonic cool periods. This morning is thoroughly grey wet and uninspiring here. These are the weekends that really count now, and we can't afford such days really.. as is the norm it seems as soon as the school holidays start the weather generally takes a nosedive for the worse, once again confirming our best chance for sustained settled pleasant weather always comes in the first half of the year, from April - mid July, now is the start of the wetter season lasting until mid Feb.. here in the Lake District at least.

Was a lovely day in Manchester today - back on train heading south and it's grim through the midlands !!

Only had 4mm of rain here last night, seems like most of the rain went around us. A torrential downpour over Liverpool at the moment. Some lightning detected.

Still no audible thunder here this year. The last couple of days have been weird too, not had a lot of rain here but places just a few miles north, south, east & west of here have had more than double the amount of rain than I have recorded.

Yes I can vouch for that FH, being just a bit further up on Ashton Road, we've been quite lucky this week with very little rainfall here.  Rain now coming from a less usual direction east to west over the pennines, but it's not heavy.  I'm sure normal service will resume at some point in the not too distant future and we'll be sitting under a slow moving atlantic weather front that just stays on our side of the hills delivering copious amounts of rainfall....something to look forward to this coming autumn/winter no doubt.  I have a feeling a reset in on the cards after a relatively dry period.

Not too bad today, slow start though but the afternoon could have been a lot worse. Don't mind temps like this (close to 20).... in the sun it can feel alright given it's still strong at this time of year.

Definately looks like those of us in the eastern parts of the region have seen the more disappointing conditions today but it's improved as the afternoon went on and more sun than cloud now.

reached 20c so nowt special but could have been worse.

A nice watering for the plants this morning and then hopefully a cheerful afternoon with some sunshine later on.

Tomorrow looks like my kind of day with sunny spells and showers in the breeze. There should be some nice convective skies to enjoy.

Been darn sarf with work today so have missed the rain at home but it looks like we've had a fair bit, certainly plenty of debris in the spots where run off occurs.

decent sunny evening though.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
