Summer perfection here - closing on 27C, unbroken sunshine and quite a strong SE breeze.

26 C here , incredibly breezy , strong sunshine, no clouds . Weather warning out for Sunday / Monday for heavy rain and not as I thought for tomorow .

Just beaten yesterday's high of 23.6°C make it the warmest day of the year so far again. 23.8°C.

Wind has certainly picked up, now blowing at 18knots in the harbour.

Signs of it being warm:

Dogs paddling pool has warm water in and no sign of ice (fortunately no signs of steam either)

Dogs are prostrate on the cold kitchen tiled floor bellies downwards (and panting)!

That's warm for you..

Just topped 27C for the first time this year here in Reading - but it's a bit breezy so doesn't really feel that hot.

The breeze has dropped here all of a sudden ,very muggy .Bright blue cloudless skies still ..27C . Loving it ....

Reminds me of May days in the 80s and early 90s or am i just dreaming that weather history?

It's done the opposite here. Still feels very warm but now very breezy. 23.6°C.

Finally.. just tipped over the 24°C mark, with 24.2°C

I think it would have been a lot higher if it wasn't for the wind today. it's been gusting to 25mph.

Maxed out at 26.9c. this morning ..The breeze has kept it down .Now 24.6c.

Done a bit of digging and looked through weather records for Bristol Weather Centre. Looks like the 1990s was the decade for May - most years had a decent warm/hot spell, the 80s were better for thunderstorms though.

1982: 12th-15th (25.1Con the 13th) & 29th-31st (25.1C also on the 31st)

1989: 03rd-06th (25C on the 05th) & 20th-26th (26.9c on the 21st) - a precursor to a really decent summer

1990: 01st-06th (26.8C on the 03rd)

1992: 13th onwards, msot of the second half of the month was often warm. 27.3C on the 20th

1995: 02nd-07th (26.5C on the 06th)

1997: 01st-02nd and 29th-31st (25.5C on the 30th)

1998: 13th-21st (25.6C on the 20th)

1999 had one or two isolated warm days, more so in the second half of the month.

Could be a spectacular end to the night for parts of the region, Ian Fergusson spoke of frequent lightning. The lightning may be more widespread than rain from previous experience but hopefully things kick off before 5am to allow for maximum viewing before daylight.

I think it will be one of those situations where thundery activity breaks out once the associated unstable air makes landfall rather than it starting over the English Channel.

It's dropped here and temp is 21 C . Does that  bode well for thunder and lightning later ?

Also no breeze at all, everything is still and there has been virtually no clouds this evening. Hoping to get my first thunder of 2017
